Biography
Born in the blistering hot Mojave desert in Southern California, Zahena found that the pulsating rhythms of Middle Eastern music called to the sand in her blood. She began her dance career with Marliza Pons and the Magic Carpet Dancers in Las Vegas Nevada and immediately knew that she had found a dance form that was perfect for her.
Now ten years later and known for her personality both on and off stage, Zahena is a popular Dallas/Fort Worth Middle Eastern dancer. Pulling from a background in both ballet and jazz along with a passion for personal fitness, Zahena has a unique style that encompasses power and grace.
As a professional horse trainer, Zahena learned early on the importance of sensing and anticipating the horse's thoughts to create a dynamic performance in the show ring. She has parlayed this knowledge into the feeling and emotion that is Middle Eastern dance.
Currently, Zahena performs at Hedary's Lebanese Oven and Grill in Richardson, Sidewalk Café in Addison and Kosta's Café on Greenville. She has also been seen at Kismet Lounge in Dallas, Byblos in Fort Worth, Stratos Greek Global Taverna in Dallas and Al-Amir in Dallas. Additionally, Zahena, Nadirah Johara and Zahara have banded together to perform at local artistic and cultural events to increase public awareness of belly dance.
Zahena has had the privilege to study with many of the great instructors in the world today including Zahra Zuhair, Raqia Hassan, and Jillina. She works tirelessly to continue to improve her dancing by studying with local teachers Tamra Henna, Shanna the Fiery, Vashti and Belly Dancer of the Year 2004 Sa'diyya.
Zahena is available for private parties, corporate events, cultural performances and weddings. She also offers a variety of props including sword, firetray and veil. Additionally, Zahena can also incorporate folkloric performances for an authentic flair. For an additional fee, Zahena also offers a troupe performance offering two more dancers.
